Compare the New Subaru Solterra against the Competition
Subaru Solterra vs. the EV Competition
Compare the 2024 Subaru Solterra to Other All-Electric SUVs
Subaru Solterra vs. Nissan ARIYA, Hyundai IONIQ 5, Volkswagen ID.4, Chevy Bolt EUV & Toyota bZ4X
In a growing field of fully electric SUVs, the 2024 Subaru Solterra stands out - and not just for its unique Latin-based nameplate referring to Sun and Earth. Between everyday rides throughout the Hudson Valley, weekend getaways to Lake George, and off-road adventures in the Adirondacks, the 2024 Subaru Solterra can power any trip you have planned. Can other new EVs say the same?
Here at North Country Subaru, we want to ensure that EV buyers from Glens Falls to Hudson Falls make an informed decision when they purchase an all-electric SUV. That's why we compare the new Subaru Solterra to EV competitors, including the Nissan ARIYA, Hyundai IONIQ 5, Toyota bZ4X, Chevy Bolt EUV, and Volkswagen ID.4. See what makes the eco-friendly Subaru SUV the clear winner!
Subaru Solterra vs. the EV Competition — Range
The new Subaru Solterra has enough range to power nearly five round trips from Granville to Glens Falls. The 228 miles of all-electric range for the Subaru Solterra tops the Volkswagen ID.4's base range of 206 miles, the Nissan ARIYA's standard range of 216 miles, and the Hyundai IONIQ 5 Standard Range model at 220 miles. The Toyota bZ4X Limited model with AWD is cut to 222 miles, but the Subaru Solterra can travel farther on single charge with standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. Only the Chevy Bolt EUV, at 247 miles, has a longer range, but charging times are longer, as noted below.
Subaru Solterra vs. the EV Competition — Charging
The Subaru Solterra improves its battery conditioning for faster charging capabilities, particularly in cold weather temperatures that strike Glens Falls and the Hudson Valley for a chunk of the year. Jump from a 10 to 80 percent charge in 35 minutes, which now matches the VW ID.4, Nissan ARIYA, and the Toyota bZ4X. The Subaru Solterra adds 45 miles of range every 10 minutes, compared to only 32 miles in 10 minutes for the Chevy Bolt EUV. The Hyundai IONIQ 5 has ultra-fast charging capabilities, but its longer-range models will take more time to charge at home than the Subaru Solterra.

Subaru Solterra vs. the EV Competition — Performance
Powered by dual electric motors, the new Subaru Solterra generates 215 horsepower. That tops the Hyundai IONIQ 5 (168 standard horsepower), Chevy Bolt EUV (200 horsepower), Toyota bZ4X and VW ID.4 (201 standard horsepower each), and Nissan ARIYA (214 standard horsepower). The Subaru Solterra's torque rating of 249 pound-feet tops the bZ4X, ARIYA, and ID.4 at 196, 221, and 229 pound-feet, respectively.
None of the other all-electric SUVs have standard AWD. Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive for the Subaru Solterra teams up with dual-function Subaru X-MODE?®, giving Granville EV owners the ability to switch between Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud modes. The Subaru Solterra thrives in low-grip conditions and off-road situations, while the other electric SUVs are city dwellers without the same capabilities.
Subaru Solterra vs. the EV Competition — Design
With the Subaru Solterra, EV owners from Fort Edward can work with 30 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats. Only the VW ID.4 can match that, and it doesn't have as wide of a rear gate as the Subaru Solterra at 41 inches. The Chevy Bolt EUV (16 cubic feet), Nissan ARIYA (23 cubic feet), Hyundai IONIQ 5 (26 cubic feet), and the Toyota bZ4X (28 cubic feet) all have less cargo space.
Clear obstacles outside Hudson Falls with the Subaru Solterra's 8.3 inches of best-in-class ground clearance. Standard roof rails for the Subaru Solterra have a load capacity of 700 pounds, so Queensbury, NY travelers can haul heavier gear. The electric SUV competition falls short on these fronts.

Subaru Solterra vs. the EV Competition — Technology
The Solterra's 12.3-inch Subaru Multimedia touchscreen is larger than the Bolt EUV (10.2 inches) and the VW ID.4 (12 inches), and it mirrors the display size of the bZ4X, ARIYA, and IONIQ 5. Standard wireless Apple CarPlay®/Android Auto™ integration for the Subaru Solterra gives Glens Falls drivers seamless smartphone access. The Hyundai IONIQ 5 requires a wired connection for both smartphones, and the ARIYA needs a cord for Android™ users.
There's one fewer USB port in the ARIYA than the Subaru Solterra with five. The Bolt EUV only has two USB ports. The Chevy Bolt EUV can't match the Subaru Solterra's voice-activated Intelligent Assistant, nor the cloud-based navigation setup, making it easier to pinpoint nearby charging stations around Glens Falls. Pump up the tunes on the way back to Hudson Falls or Fort Edward with the Subaru Solterra's Harman Kardon® premium audio system with 11 speakers. The Bose® sound system for the Bolt EUV and ARIYA have seven and 10 speakers, respectively.
Subaru Solterra vs. the EV Competition — Safety
Subaru EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology for the Solterra counters Chevy Safety Assist for the Bolt EUV, Toyota Safety Sense™ 3.0 for the bZ4X, Hyundai SmartSense for the IONIQ 5, Nissan Safety Shield® 360 for the ARIYA, and IQ.DRIVE® for the VW ID.4. None of these EVs can match the Solterra's DriverFocus® Distraction Mitigation System, which does a better job of watching out for you behind the wheel.
The 2024 Subaru Solterra adds Hands-Free Driving to its arsenal. There's no hands-free driving for the VW ID.4 or IONIQ 5, which only offers Highway Driving Assist 2. Hands-Off Driving for the Nissan ARIYA is offered through ProPILOT Assist 2.0, which you have to pay extra for. While the Bolt EUV offers a Super Cruiseâ„¢ Package, the Chevy model's generic adaptive cruise control can't counter the Subaru Solterra's Dynamic Radar Cruise Control setup paired with Lane Tracing and Road Sign Assist.
